Metropolia was in partnership with World Design Capital Helsinki 2012

Metropolia was one of the educational institutions taking part in World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 receiving a visible role for contribution. In return, Metropolia had the right to use the World Design Capital logo and other material as agreed by the parties.

Metropolia’s projects related to the Design Capital year put people, ease of use and availability in the forefront. Design planning and implementation were carried out jointly and openly with the locals, aiming for a better environment for us to live in.

Design projects to be implemented within the project included a walking frame for children, Hspace (a project for new spaces for learning and leisure that combine combining physical and digital presence) and Design for Everyday Mobility, which will create environmentally viable solutions concerning public transport, cycling and pedestrianism, thereby serving city planning, increasing safety and encouraging people to walk, cycle or use more public transport.

“Metropolia was engaged as part of World Design Capital projects in exciting co-operation across a number of sectors with local designers and parties that use design services, such as the public sector and local businesses,” said Päivi Fredriksson, Director of the Design degree programme.
